Specialty Areas and Training
Trauma Processing
Our providers are passionate about supporting individuals who have experienced trauma. We bring both clinical experience and specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting. The previous approaches help process trauma stored in the body and lower, emotional parts of the brain, rather than relying solely on a top-down, logic-based approach.
These therapies use bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) to support the brain in reprocessing traumatic experiences and reducing emotional distress.
At Healing Pathways, we support clients who have experienced a wide range of trauma, including but not limited to:
Sexual abuse and sexual assault
Childhood abuse and/or neglect
Attachment-based trauma
Domestic violence
Acute traumatic events (such as medical trauma, sudden or traumatic loss, car accidents, or natural disasters)
We also provide support for professionals experiencing vicarious trauma, including healthcare workers, teachers, therapists, and first responders.
Grief and loss
In addition to trauma work, our providers have specialized training in grief counseling and supporting individuals through the loss of a loved one. We recognize that grief often includes secondary losses and can bring complex emotional responses. Our goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can process their experiences and better understand their emotions.
Mood and Anxiety Disorders
Clients may experience many different types of anxiety and mood disorders, often influenced by a variety of underlying factors. At Healing Pathways, we begin with psychoeducation to help clients better understand the symptoms they are experiencing and to recognize that they are not defined by a diagnosis.
We introduce a range of skills and techniques designed to support nervous system regulation, including approaches that engage the vagus nerve. These techniques can help clients shift from survival states (fight, flight, or freeze) into a more regulated, restful state. When the nervous system is calmer, clients are better able to process emotions and build cognitive skills.
From there, we incorporate evidence-based strategies such as cognitive restructuring to help clients identify, challenge, and reframe unhelpful thought patterns.
Our therapists draw from a variety of models and interventions to meet each client’s unique needs. Depending on individual goals and underlying factors, approaches such as EMDR or Brainspotting may also be integrated into treatment.
